What are Rapid Tests?

Rapid tests, commonly referred to as rapid test kits (RTK), are easy-to-use tests that provide quick results, usually in 20 minutes or less. Unlike most standard tests, which have to be sent to a lab, rapid tests are done and provide results at the point of care.

The point of care is the place where you are getting care. It can include your provider’s office, a clinic, or even your own home. Rapid diagnostic tests can speed the etiologic diagnosis of infections in several scenarios (e.g., sepsis, respiratory tract infections, and meningitis).

Interpretation of currently available rapid test is not always straightforward, and therefore, they cannot yet replace conventional tests.

Chikungunya IgG/IgM Rapid Test

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of Chikungunya antibodies in the sample. The presence of Chikungunya antibodies can be used in the diagnosis of Chikungunya infection.

Specimen type: Blood serum/plasma

Result interpretation:  Formation of coloured line in C, IgG and IgM region indicate a positive result for both Chikungunya IgG and IgM antibodies; formation of coloured line in C and IgG region indicates a positive result for Chikungunya IgG antibodies; formation of coloured line in C and IgM region indicates a positive result for Chikungunya IgM antibodies; formation of coloured line in C region only indicate a negative result for both Chikungunya IgG and IgM antibodies; no formation of coloured line in C region indicate an invalid result for both Chikungunya IgG and IgM antibodies.

COVID-19 IgG/IgM Rapid Test

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein antigens in the sample. The presence of this antigen can be used to determine a COVID-19 infection.

Specimen type: Nasal swab

Turnaround time: 30 minutes

Result interpretation: Formation of coloured line in both C and T region indicate a positive result for COVID-19; formation of coloured line in C region only indicates a negative result for COVID-19; formation of coloured line in T region only indicates an invalid result for COVID-19.

Dengue NS1Ag RapidTest

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of NS1 antigen for all dengue serotypes in the sample. The presence of dengue NS1 antigens indicate a dengue infection.

Specimen type: Blood serum/plasma

Turnaround time: 30 minutes

Result interpretation: Formation of coloured line in both C and T region indicate a positive result for dengue NS1 antigen; formation of coloured line in C region only indicates a negative result for dengue NS1 antigen; formation of coloured line in T region only indicates an invalid result for dengue NS1 antigen.

Dengue IgG/IgM RapidTest

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of IgG/IgM antibodies for all dengue serotypes in the sample. The presence of dengue IgG/IgM antibodies indicate a dengue infection.

Specimen type: Blood serum/plasma

Turnaround time: 30 minutes

Result interpretation: Formation of coloured line in C, IgG and IgM region indicate a positive result for both dengue IgG and IgM antibodies; formation of coloured line in C and IgG region indicates a positive result for dengue IgG antibodies; formation of coloured line in C and IgM region indicates a positive result for dengue IgM antibodies; formation of coloured line in C region only indicate a negative result for both dengue IgG and IgM antibodies; no formation of coloured line in C region indicate an invalid result for both dengue IgG and IgM antibodies.

DOA Test (Morphine, MOP)

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of MOP in the sample. Coloured line in the T region of the test strip will not be formed if the concentration of MOP in the sample is above the detectable level (300 ng/mL).

Result interpretation:  Formation of coloured line in both C and T region indicate a negative result for MOP test (below detectable level); formation of coloured line in C region only indicates a positive result for MOP test (above detectable level); formation of coloured line in T region only indicates an invalid result for MOP test.

DOA Test (Amphetamine, AMP)

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of AMP in the sample. Coloured line in the T region of the test strip will not be formed if the concentration of AMP in the sample is above the detectable level (1000 ng/mL).

Result interpretation:  Formation of coloured line in both C and T region indicate a negative result for AMP test (below detectable level); formation of coloured line in C region only indicates a positive result for AMP test (above detectable level); formation of coloured line in T region only indicates an invalid result for AMP test.

DOA Test (Cocaine, COC)

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of COC metabolite in the sample. Coloured line in the T region of the test strip will not be formed if the concentration of COC metabolite in the sample is above the detectable level (300 ng/mL).

Result interpretation:  Formation of coloured line in both C and T region indicate a negative result for COC test (below detectable level); formation of coloured line in C region only indicates a positive result for COC test (above detectable level); formation of coloured line in T region only indicates an invalid result for COC test.

DOA Test (Ketamine, KET)

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of KET in the sample. Coloured line in the T region of the test strip will not be formed if the concentration of KET in the sample is above the detectable level (1000 ng/mL).

Result interpretation:  Formation of coloured line in both C and T region indicate a negative result for KET test (below detectable level); formation of coloured line in C region only indicates a positive result for KET test (above detectable level); formation of coloured line in T region only indicates an invalid result for KET test.

DOA Test (Benzodiazepine, BZO)

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of BZO metabolite in the sample. Coloured line in the T region of the test strip will not be formed if the concentration of BZO metabolite in the sample is above the detectable level (300 ng/mL).

Result interpretation:  Formation of coloured line in both C and T region indicate a negative result for BZO test (below detectable level); formation of coloured line in C region only indicates a positive result for BZO test (above detectable level); formation of coloured line in T region only indicates an invalid result for BZO test.

DOA Test (Methylenedioxy-methamphetamine, MDMA)

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of MDMA in the sample. Coloured line in the T region of the test strip will not be formed if the concentration of MDMA in the sample is above the detectable level (500 ng/mL).

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of MDA in the sample. Coloured line in the T region of the test strip will not be formed if the concentration of MDA in the sample is above the detectable level (500 ng/mL).

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of MET in the sample. Coloured line in the T region of the test strip will not be formed if the concentration of MET in the sample is above the detectable level (1000 ng/mL).

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of Morphine in the sample. Coloured line in the T region of the test strip will not be formed if the concentration of Morphine in the sample is above the detectable level (2000 ng/mL).

Result interpretation:  Formation of coloured line in both C and T region indicate a negative result for OPI test (below detectable level); formation of coloured line in C region only indicates a positive result for OPI test (above detectable level); formation of coloured line in T region only indicates an invalid result for OPI test.

DOA Test (Tetrahydrocannabinol, THC)

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of THC metabolite in the sample. Coloured line in the T region of the test strip will not be formed if the concentration of THC metabolite in the sample is above the detectable level (50 ng/mL).

Result interpretation:  Formation of coloured line in both C and T region indicate a negative result for THC test (below detectable level); formation of coloured line in C region only indicates a positive result for THC test (above detectable level); formation of coloured line in T region only indicates an invalid result for THC test.

hCG Pregnancy RapidTest

Description: This test is able to detect the elevation of hCG hormone level in the sample. The presence of hCG hormone is commonly used in determining an early pregnancy.

Specimen type: Urine

Result interpretation: Formation of coloured line in both C and T region indicate a positive result for pregnancy; formation of coloured line in C region only indicates a negative result for pregnancy; formation of coloured line in T region only indicates an invalid result for pregnancy.

HBsAg Rapid Test

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of Hepatitis B surface antigen in the sample. The presence of HBsAg can be used in the diagnosis of Hepatitis B .

Specimen type: Blood serum/plasma

Turnaround time: 30 minutes

Result interpretation:  Formation of coloured line in both C and T region indicate a positive result for Hepatitis B ; formation of coloured line in C region only indicates a negative result for Hepatitis B ; formation of coloured line in T region only indicates an invalid result for M. Hepatitis B .

Influenza A/B & RSV RapidTest

Description: This test allows a simultaneous screening for the presence of Respiratory Syncytial Virus,Influenza A virus and Influenza B virus in the sample. The presence of the viruses indicate RSV or Influenza infection.

Specimen type: Nasal swab

Turnaround time: 30 minutes

Result interpretation:

  1. Formation of coloured line in both C and T region indicate a positive result for RSV; formation of coloured line in C region only indicates a negative result for RSV; formation of coloured line in T region only indicates an invalid result for RSV.

 

  1. Formation of coloured line in C, A and B region indicate a positive result for both Influenza A and B; formation of coloured line in C and A region indicates a positive result for Influenza A; formation of coloured line in C and B region indicates a positive result for Influenza B; formation of coloured line in C region only indicate a negative result for both Influenza A and B; no formation of coloured line in C region indicate an invalid result for both Influenza A and B.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae IgM Rapid Test

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae IgM antibodies in the sample. The presence of M. pneumoniae IgM antibodies can be used in the diagnosis of M. pneumoniae infection.

Specimen type: Blood serum/plasma

Turnaround time: 30 minutes

Result interpretation:  Formation of coloured line in both C and T region indicate a positive result for M. pneumoniae infection; formation of coloured line in C region only indicates a negative result for M. pneumoniae infection; formation of coloured line in T region only indicates an invalid result for M. pneumoniae infection.

Rota/Adenovirus RapidTest

Description: This test allows a rapid detection of adenovirus and rotavirus in the sample. The presence of the viruses indicate a viral infection in the patient.

Specimen type: Faeces

Turnaround time: 30 minutes

Result interpretation: Formation of coloured line in C, T1 and T2 region indicate a positive result for both rotavirus and adenovirus; formation of coloured line in C and T1 region indicates a positive result for rotavirus; formation of coloured line in C and T2 region indicates a positive result for adenovirus; formation of coloured line in C region only indicate a negative result for both rotavirus and adenovirus; no formation of coloured line in C region indicate an invalid result for both rotavirus and adenovirus.

Syphilis RapidTest

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of Treponema pallidum antibodies in the sample. The presence of Treponema pallidum antibodies can be used in the diagnosis of syphilis.

Specimen type: Blood serum/plasma

Turnaround time: 30 minutes

Result interpretation:  Formation of coloured line in both C and T region indicate a positive result for syphilis; formation of coloured line in C region only indicates a negative result for syphilis; formation of coloured line in T region only indicates an invalid result for syphilis.

Zika RapidTest

Description: This test is able to detect the presence of IgG/IgM antibodies to Zika in the sample. The presence of IgG/IgM antibodies to Zika can be used in determining a Zika infection.

Specimen type: Blood serum/plasma

Turnaround time: 30 minutes

Result interpretation: Formation of coloured line in C, T1 and T2 region indicate a positive result for both zika IgG and IgM antibodies; formation of coloured line in C and T1 region indicates a positive result for  zika IgG antibodies; formation of coloured line in C and T2 region indicates a positive result for zika IgM antibodies; formation of coloured line in C region only indicate a negative result for both zika IgG and IgM antibodies; no formation of coloured line in C region indicate an invalid result for both zika IgG and IgM antibodies.
